Kalona- Ada Irene Yoder was born February 17, 1935 to Tobe and Lydia (Glick) Bontrager in rural Kalona. Ada trusted Christ as her savior and was baptized in the Amish Faith. She later transferred to the Fairview Mennonite Church and was a charter member when Sunnyside formed. Ada said she had 80 years fulfilled years, more so than many. She spent 8 years in Germany under Rosedale Mennonite Mission, 24 years at the AAA as a travel agent and tour guide, and 20 plus years ministering to women at IMCC prison, and the last 20 years as a wife. On May 6,1995 she was united in marriage to Calvin M. Yoder. Ada died on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at her home in Kalona at the age of 80 years.
Ada is survived by her husband Calvin of Kalona, 3 step children; James (Donna) Yoder, Leighton (Joanna) Yoder and Carol Ann Yoder all of Kalona, 6 grandchildren, a brother Norman (Ruth Ann) Bontrager of Kalona, 2 sisters Edna Miller (Mrs. Emery H) and Ethel Bontrager both of Kalona, 11 nieces and nephews, 78 great nieces and nephews, 40 great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two great nieces, 4 great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. Burial will be in the South Gingerich Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held from 2-6 PM on Sunday and from 2-4 and 5:30-7:30 PM on Monday at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for Stella's House a Moldova Safe House for girls. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
