A. Clifton "Clif" Ledbetter

Clifton Ledbetter, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Park Place Elder Living. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will follow beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick Moorman of the Oakland Mills Community Church officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full Military Rites. A memorial has been established for P.A.W.S. in Ft. Madison, IA. Born February 10, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant, Archie Clifton was the son Archie Walter and Gladys (Hussman) Ledbetter. He received his education in the Mt. Pleasant School District. On August 27, 1946, he married Waneta Hines in Martinez, CA. He served his country in the United States Army as a MP during WWII, and had been stationed at Okinawa. A self-made man, "Clif" began his work career as an orderly at the Mental Health Institute. After his service in the Army, he was a deputy sheriff for Henry County. He later owned and operated a Mobil Gas Station in Mt. Pleasant. He then worked as a shop foreman at Hodson McKim Motors from where he retired. After retirement he continued to work on cars out of his own garage. Clif was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #58. He was an all-around handyman with the ability to fix anything. Favorite hobbies included fishing, camping, gardening and woodworking. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music. Survivors include a son, John Ledbetter; a daughter, Janet Jo Ledbetter, both of Mt. Pleasant; six sisters, Margaret Hinman of Cordova, TN, Thelma Hill of Burlington, IA, Joyce Snyder of West Burlington, IA, Dee Hayes of McCalla, AL, Norma Hedger of Sacramento, CA, and Sandra Hunter of Ft. Madison, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews including his niece, Kathy, and her husband, Kenny Hawkins, who were caregivers. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Waneta; 5 brothers, Jimmy, Richard, Bob, Henry and Walter Ledbetter; and a daughter-in-law, Pat Ledbetter.
