Life Story for LeVern Stout
DELTA-Forrest LeVern Stout, age 94, of Sigourney, formerly of Delta, died Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
LeVern was born November 7, 1922, in Delta, to Charles Frederick and Rosemonde Elenore (Stephenson) Stout. He graduated from Delta High School in 1940 and attended Iowa State University and William Penn College. LeVern served in the Army Air Force from 1943 until 1945, where he was stationed in Greenland. He then worked at the Ford Garage in Sigourney, Oldsmobile Garage in Oskaloosa and Apco Station in Sigourney before managing the Big Bear store in Oskaloosa for 28 years. On September 25, 1959, LeVern married Georgia Herrick in Bettendorf. LeVern was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed going to the harness races in What Cheer, the Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant and visiting with people.
Survivors include his wife: Georgia of Delta; daughter: Sherry (Greg) Ehret of Gibson; son: Terry Stout of Delta; four grandchildren: Adam Stout of Washington, Nicole Stout of Sigourney, Matthew Ehret and Ashley Ehret, both of Oskaloosa; two great grandchildren: Avery and Emersyn and sister: Cathleen Leathers of Moline, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson: Christopher Stout.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Delta United Methodist Church, with Pastor Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Garrett Cemetery near Delta. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be a masonic service at 7:00 p.m.
